Straight Out of Stockton - Grand Master Rene Latosa / Interview with Guro Cedric Concon
When researching Stockton and its relationship to Filipino Martial Arts in America, another personality that should pop up for you would be Grand Master Rene Latosa. Besides studying with the major players of Stockton, like Leo Giron, Angel Cabales and Dentoy Revilar, he trained in his father's FMA and created his own style , which is highly respected.
This interview with Guro Cedric Concon was conducted at the 2024 Stockton Multi-Style Escrima West Coast Gathering in Mokelumne Hills, CA

GM Latosa was a great instructor!
Yea but if you ever grow up in the country side or on the hills those kids always be a whole other breed
Nice!!
@@steelybeatz6382 thanks Brotha!
excellent video chris, I really like the style of maestro Raffy. Are you by any chance of Italian origin?
@@kaimano4657 yes sir!
Respect to the Grandmaster ❤🙏🏼
Its great watching these videos, I wish I studied this when I had the chance with my grandfather. Keep the videos coming!
I love the history! Keep it coming!
Will do!
Happy 420th view
Nice!!!😀👍👊
Thanks Brotha!
Susan Jackson brought Raffy to SSS one year. Not sure if you were there that year. Really cool to meet him and train with him.
@TheShawnShow3 Yes, I was there that year. That was the year I met him. I remember he did some whip material for his demo on Saturday night.
Enjoyed the review! Frank is the man. Glad to see he is still having such an impact with his families traditions.
Thank you. He’s a talented guy on many levels.
Love this song!!
George Duke was a talented man and knew how to write a jam.
@@JungKiChris when his song comes on I have to stand Jump around and clap my hands
I met Master Raffy at a Sama Sama and loved training with him and his students that weekend, awesome stuff!
One of my favorite lines ever, that I still use to this day... "That's cool, just not what we did." Hahahahahaha!
Best band in CT history
It’s appreciated Brotha, but there were so many good CT bands back in the day we looked up to and played along side with.
So good
Thank you genius
Aw shucks! Thank you. ☺️
Amazed on the lack of popularity on this, it's really good! Also do you have lyrics for this? It's tricky to tell what is being said it certain parts.
Thank you!!! What section are you having an issue making out the lyrics?
@@JungKiChris Right about 0:28, Also thanks for replying! Normally channels that posted back in 2013 don't reply, so it's good to see someone still running this. Also the chorus is a bit tricky to make out, after the "I hear the" part which comes after the "Wash away my sins".
Hillbilly Butt touch 🤔
For those that may be worried… No butts were harmed in the making of this video. 😂
Former student here and so happy to see all your uploads! Also, thank you for uploading these demo videos too!
Thank you! Did you study Hapkido and Kuhapdo, or just one of them? If you haven’t already, definitely subscribe to the channel because I have more old Hapkido/Kuhapdo footage that’s in the chute to be uploaded to the channel.
I loved this post. Ball rashes are not any less awkward in a private visit! But... it is an opportunity for research... let's test! lets see how many needles we can put in a scrotum before they say, "stop!"
lol.
Hi from Connecticut
I miss training Kuhapdo & Hapkido under GM Lim. I still practice from time to time but it's obviously not the same.
I hear ya, Brotha!
I was holding out until the knife part lol
nails on a chalkboard.
Practically.
Great video brother! I promise to quit stealing your stuff.
Much appreciated, sticky fingers. 😉😂😂😂
Typically a striping pattern of black and white electrical tape on the last four inches of either end. I do it for teaching so it’s easier to track the stick in motion. That being said, I just ordered some medical stickers saying “For oral use only” to add to my punyos. hashtag PunyoToTheFace
Sounds like a solid plan during teaching. That sticker idea is awesome! 😂😂😂
Always mark my sticks. If I do use tape I usually just do one small wrap at the end. Engraving is a new one for me! Hey I got a rotary tool in the garage so let’s see!!!
Smart man! 😊 You’ll have to show me how you made out with the rotary tool next year at the Progressive Arnis Camp in Florida.
Harmonizing energy. To harmonize or blend with the "attackers" energy and intent. On a real basic level: to push when pulled, and to pull when pushed. This is what Aiki means to me from my level of understanding.
I know of this guy as I went to a few of his seminars 7 years ago. I got caught up in all the sensationalism about his history and connection with James Mistose. That was until I started to do alot of research about him because people where telling me he was a fraud. At first I didn't like what people where telling me and I never just believe what people say unless I research it without proof. Through research I found out that Bruce is one of the biggest lies in martial arts history. It was a huge disappointment for myself and others in our group. For years he has been lying about his rank and history with James Mitose. That has all been found out now finally. He claims to have learned from James Mitose but only visited him in prison only a few times according to prison log books which has been proven. Many have seen the logs. Even without log books who in their right mind would believe he learned from James Mitose in a maximum security prison ? How is that people buy the stories of him having discussions in a room with Mitose in prison and Mitose showing him concepts. They would allow that in a maximum security prison ? with a convicted murder ? I have worked in prisons and that would never happen. In the book " What is Self Defense -Mitose" it shows letters that Mitose gave to Bruce declaring him Grand Master of the art. If you look in the front of the book in small print you will see that the book was reprinted by the "Kosho Shorei Ryu punishing company" ..owned by Bruce....letters inserted in the book perhaps? When you read the book there is nothing in the book resembling the material that Bruce teaches. The book clearly demonstrates karate and jujitsu techniques in a very basic way. Where is the Kosho Ryu ? Why does no one ever see that ? Bruce’s explanation over the years has been that books show “still pictures” and it’s hard to show these things as its not movement” .The book clearly shows simple techniques none of which even remotely look like the so called “Kosho Ryu” that Bruce teaches. There is no talk about any of his theories. Take Aikido for example it is not the easiest thing to learn as it is all movement and concepts yet many books have been written for that art and discussed in detail broken down into “still pictures” showing movement so people can learn from that. The whole history of Bruce and Kosho Ryu has been fabricated. In the 1980’s he was so popular because the internet wasn’t out at that time and the world could not connect to compare notes. Today these type of frauds are exposed do to the internet with people connecting and sharing and proving information. When asked to Bruce why about the book he wrote - "why is Mitoses signature in his book he wrote erased out ?". His answer is " because so no one could copy Mitoses’ signature". What a clever why to cover a lie. Things don’t seem to match here. The reality is it’s a lie. Why do famous actors and sports people have letters and signatures in books but do not block out their signatures?... That’s why we have hand writing experts to easily determine by cross referencing that signatures are real or not...no need to cross them out in a book . Bruce talks in his videos about being true to ones self but he is the biggest twister of truth. He is a good showman and fabricator. Crazy how people follow this guy. Today alot of people have researched him and found out his lies. He doesn't have the following he had for years. Eventually people seek truth. Some know but turn a blind eye. Its sad.

Nice review. The book has been on my too-long TBR list, but hearing that it is a quick read will make me move it up to “next book” status. ✊🏽
Thanks! Awesome! There is a lot of good information in a quick read. I hope you enjoy it.
Hello Chris.
Hi Miss Theresa! 👋
Fantastic information. I have my new moves on my phone
Awesome! Thanks @theresaste !
Nice drill! Love it!
Thanks David!
I'm just now getting back into the arts. I remember in my youth, not being focused but now that I'm older I took this approach and made myself a book to go along so I do keep focus. Right now its just filled with the handbook, a notes page, a Glossary of terminology and then a page dedicated to what I'll need to know for my first test. This way I can make sure to practice on my own outside of the Dojo and not forget.
Awesome! Welcome back to the Martial Arts, brotha!
